Why Homeowners Choose Paul

Your COMPLETE landscape contractor, not one trade

Most yards need more than one trade, and that is where they come apart. The turf goes in, but the drainage was never fixed, so the low corner still puddles every winter. Or the grass comes out and nobody changes the sprinklers over, so half the system is watering nothing. We handle the whole project, start to finish, which means turf, sod, sprinklers, drip, drainage, planting, renovation and maintenance are one plan run by one crew.

Licensed in California since 2004

Paul Cortenbach has held California contractor license 840163 since 2004. It is a C-27 Landscaping license, the business is bonded through Western Surety at $25,000, and workers comp is active. You do not have to take our word for it, look the license up at cslb.ca.gov. It matters more than people think: Menifee's own code says artificial turf has to be installed by a licensed professional, so we install the turf to code and keep the living plant material the code also asks for.

We fix what is under the yard before we finish the top of it

Eastern Municipal Water District writes its watering guidance for the heavy clay soils common to most of the Inland valleys of Riverside County. Clay holds water instead of letting it soak away, so it sits on the surface or runs to the lowest point, which is usually your foundation. Laying a new surface over that hides it for one winter and then it comes back worse. We get the drainage fixed first, then build the yard on top of it.

The irrigation is designed for the rules we actually water under

In Menifee, overhead spray is not allowed within 24 inches of any non permeable surface, and long narrow areas have to be watered without spray or overspray. Eastern Municipal allows landscape irrigation only between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., bans watering during rain or within 48 hours after it, and caps unattended stations at fifteen minutes a day, with an exemption for low flow drip at two gallons an hour or less. We put sprinklers and drip together on separate stations so the system sits inside all of that without you thinking about it.

We tell you the truth about turf, HOAs and the rebate

There is no rebate for artificial turf. The turf replacement program pays you to take live grass out and put living drought tolerant plants in, and its own eligibility page says "No synthetic turf is allowed". In the Eastern Municipal area that rebate is $5 a square foot, $3 from the district on top of $2 from Metropolitan. Your HOA also cannot ban turf or low water plants, because Civil Code 4735 makes such a rule void and unenforceable. The smart move is usually both, turf where you want a clean green area and rebate qualifying planting across the rest. A turf only installer has to talk you out of that.

We stay after the build, residential and commercial

A yard is only as good as the year after it is built, so we keep it that way afterwards: mowing, trimming, bed care, weeding and clean up, plus a look at the irrigation on every visit. Most wasted water in this valley is a broken head or a stuck valve running in the middle of the night where nobody sees it. We work on houses and on commercial properties across the Inland Valley, and you can see every town we cover on our service areas page.
